Buying luggage for a growing family

The mistake most families make is buying a fixed set of cases sized for the family as it is today, rather than one that scales as the number and size of travelers changes.

A mid-range medium hardside case, doubled up, tends to outlast a family’s changing needs better than a single very large case bought for a specific trip — two medium cases split more evenly between two adults or an adult and an older child than one oversized case that only one person can realistically wheel.

A large, inexpensive wheeled duffel is worth adding as the set grows, since it absorbs the overflow — extra clothing, equipment, souvenirs — that a fixed hardside set has no flexibility to accommodate without buying yet another dedicated case.
