How durable are budget brand suitcases really?

For occasional use — a handful of trips a year — budget luggage brands generally hold up reasonably well, since the components aren’t exercised enough to hit their failure point quickly. The gap between a budget case and a premium one is real, but it takes sustained, frequent use to become obvious.

That gap is concentrated in specific areas: thinner shell material that flexes or cracks more readily under a hard impact, simpler wheel mounts that wear faster under heavy rolling, and lighter-duty zips that can fail sooner under repeated stress. None of these make a budget case unusable — they simply set a lower ceiling on how much heavy use it comfortably tolerates before something needs repair or replacement.

For anyone checking luggage weekly or flying for work regularly, that ceiling is reached faster, making the case for a more durable, mid-range or premium case a stronger one specifically for frequent travelers rather than occasional ones.
