Wipe down the interior after every trip at minimum, even without an obvious spill — residue from bottle caps, splashes during use, and general moisture accumulate faster in a sealed toiletry bag than most people expect, and regular cleaning prevents a gradual buildup that becomes harder to address later.
Any actual leak should be cleaned immediately rather than waiting for the next scheduled clean, and the bag needs to be fully dried — not just wiped — before being sealed shut and packed away, since a bag closed while still damp is the most common cause of mold or a musty smell developing before the next trip.
For a bag with a wipeable interior lining, this maintenance takes only a minute or two with a damp cloth and mild soap, which is precisely the advantage of that lining design over an absorbent fabric interior that’s much harder to clean thoroughly.
