Should I pack shoes at the top or bottom of a case?

At the bottom of the case, near the wheels. Shoes are typically the heaviest single item packed, and placing them low keeps the case’s center of gravity stable when it’s wheeled or tipped — a case top-heavy with shoes is noticeably less stable and more prone to tipping over when stood upright.

Pack shoes inside their own bag, ideally one that keeps soles away from clothing, and use the inside of each shoe for small items — socks, a charger cable — rather than leaving that space empty.

The exception is a very short trip with only one pair of shoes being worn rather than packed, in which case the placement matters much less since there’s no meaningful weight distribution decision to make.

Check with your airline and read the label before you follow anything here. Lithium battery watt-hour limits, liquids allowances and lock policies differ by carrier and by country, and change over time — the figures published by the airline or security authority you are actually traveling with take precedence over anything written on this site. A power bank or spare battery is carried exactly as its manufacturer and your airline specify, never estimated. We report what is published — a watt-hour rating, a size limit, a lock's official recognition — and this site describes the equipment only: nothing here is a guarantee about what a specific checkpoint will allow on a specific day.
