XD Design Bobby Hero Regular anti-theft backpack review

A structured anti-theft backpack with lockable main-compartment zips, a hidden back-panel pocket, and a built-in USB charging port.

The Bobby Hero’s most useful anti-theft feature is the one least visible: a pocket built into the back panel, against the wearer’s body rather than an outer face, which is genuinely difficult to access in a crowd without the wearer noticing — a real design choice, not just a “hidden pocket” claim printed on a listing.

The lockable zip pulls clip to a fixed point on the bag itself, adding a real deterrent against a quick opportunistic opening on public transport, though they are not a substitute for basic vigilance in a genuinely high-risk environment.

What it does well, and where it fails

Strengths

  • Lockable zip pulls clip to a fixed point on the main compartment
  • Hidden back-panel pocket sits against the wearer's body, out of reach in a crowd
  • Built-in USB charging port routes to an internal cable, no need to open the bag to charge a phone

Compromises

  • Structured shape is bulkier than a standard soft-sided daypack
  • USB port charges from a power bank carried inside — it does not include one
