Organizing a backpack for quick airport access

The items security actually asks for — liquids, electronics, sometimes a passport — should live in the most accessible compartment, not buried under clothing.

Keep the liquids bag and any laptop or tablet in the outermost or most accessible compartment, ideally one that opens without disturbing the rest of the pack — most screening processes ask for both to be removed, and digging through a main compartment to find them slows down the whole line.

A passport holder with a dedicated, zipped pocket near the top of the bag saves the same kind of repeated searching at boarding gates and hotel check-ins, where it gets pulled out and put away far more often than any other single item.
