What's the actual benefit of a luggage tracker?

A luggage tracker doesn’t prevent a bag from being lost or delayed — it gives visibility into where the bag actually is, which is genuinely useful when an airline’s own tracking is vague or when a connection is missed and the bag’s status is unclear.

The practical benefit shows up most in delayed or misrouted baggage situations: being able to tell an airline’s baggage service exactly which airport or city a bag last reported from, rather than relying entirely on the airline’s own system, can speed up locating and forwarding a delayed bag.

For a tracker relying on a crowdsourced network like Apple’s Find My, the benefit is strongest in busy, device-dense environments — a major airport hub — and weaker in remote handling areas or regions with lower device density, where location reports can lag significantly behind the bag’s actual position.
