For anyone traveling with a suit, blazer or structured dress on a regular basis, a garment bag is a worthwhile addition — it noticeably reduces the creasing that folding a structured garment into a standard case section produces, particularly on longer flights where the garment sits compressed for hours.
A fold-flat, tri-fold design that packs inside a checked or even a larger cabin case is the more practical format for air travel, since a full-length hanging garment bag has nowhere to actually hang on most flights. The trade for the fold-flat design is one or two crease lines at the fold points, which is still meaningfully better than folding the garment into a general clothing compartment.
For occasional business travel with a single structured item, bundle wrapping — wrapping the garment around a soft core rather than folding flat — is a free alternative that achieves a similar result without buying a dedicated bag.
